Coronavirus Response

In Response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

An important message from the Chamber’s President, Kiyundra Jones

First, on behalf of the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce and our over 600 member-investors, I want to extend our appreciation to President Trump, Governor Abbott, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins and the Dallas County Commissioners, Dallas County Health Department, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson and the City Council, City Manager T.C. Broadnax and the City of Dallas team for their leadership through this novel coronavirus situation.

On Friday, March 13th, President Trump declared a national state of emergency regarding the Coronavirus outbreak. Additionally, Mayor Eric Johnson signed a disaster declaration order for public and mass gatherings, in tandem with Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins’ emergency declaration, and Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s state of disaster declaration. A few days ago Mayor Johnson and Judge Jenkins amended the order to limit public and private gatherings to no more than 50 people and closing all bars and dine-in restaurants. Take-out, drive-through and delivery options are still allowed. This was effective beginning on March 17th and will remain in place indefinitely.

Therefore after careful consideration, the Chamber has closed our office to member-investors and the public until our local, State and Federal officials have deemed it safe to reopen. Our team will continue to be on the job with the option of teleworking from home or from our closed office. We shall continue to be active, responsive, and available by phone, text or email.

In compliance with the recommendations from Judge Jenkins and public health officials, all Chamber events scheduled have been postponed. We shall reschedule as is appropriate and advisable by government and health officials. We’ll continue to work during this time frame to advocate on behalf of our member investors while monitoring public health developments closely and will re-evaluate future programs and meetings as to what is in the best interest of our community. We regret this inconvenience but we know that you are making the same hard decisions based on the welfare of the public, your employees and business. We can get through this-together.

We want to remind you that during this fluid situation there are government resources and programs available that may be helpful to you and your business. Additionally, we shall continue to serve as a resource and support our business industry during this difficult time.

Consider supporting Dallas businesses in the coming weeks by:

  • Buying gift cards now and using them later and/or buying items now for future pickup
  • Utilizing food delivery services or consider picking up your order.
  • And if you know a business owner, please ask how you can help them during this time.

Thank you for your understanding and patience. This affects all of us and we are here to help in any way we can as our team has the option to work remotely as recommended by the CDC and local health officials. We look forward, as you do, to resuming our normal business as soon as possible. We shall remain vigilant and adjust our business activities as developments warrant and also keep you advised of any changes in our office.

Please help support our local restaurants here in Oak Cliff! We have compiled a list of those offering services for pickup and delivery. Stay safe, stay healthy and stay sheltered.

Kiyundra Jones, I.O.M.
President
Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce
